- Ben Spatz is Artistic Director of Urban Research Theater in New York City. His solo performance RITE OF THE BUTCHER (Cave Soak Festival, 2012; United Solo Festival, 2011) explores themes of power and violence through a unique synthesis of poetry, martial dance, and folk songs in an invented language. With Maximilian Balduzzi, Ben created and performed in PLAYWAR (Abrons Arts Center, 2012; Movement Research Festival, 2010) and THEATRICALE (Lincoln Center Rubenstein Atrium, 2011). Ben has taught and led workshops for Theaterlab, Culture Push, Yale University, and the City University of New York, where he is an advanced doctoral candidate writing on embodiment, gender, and social practice. He has been a resident artist at Cave Arts and Movement Research and his writing has been published in both academic and artistic journals.
