Event Description

I write this: "The first dancer was a traveller." A traveller then, or an ironsmith, to put it in other words "metal" : "a sharp metallic instrument which opens the destiny crack between community and nature, which engraves a deep wound on the tender body of nature." Therefore, the community closed upon itself opens "outwards" and lays itself open to " communication." Hardening through Butoh starts with the sound of the hammer! It is in the black furnace that everything takes place. That is to say, a beginning with no ending, or else, a way leading to the chaos and at the same time extending to the cosmos.
-KO MUROBUSHI

Please join us for a 2-hour movement workshop with Ko Murobushi.

Price: $50

Ko is one of the best known and most acclaimed butoh artists in the world and is recognized in Japan as a leading inheritor of Tatsumi Hijikata’s original vision of butoh. He trained and performed with Hijikata from 1969, and later briefly gave up dance and trained as a yamabushi (an ascetic mountain monk). Once back into society he founded the butoh Group DAIRAKUDAKAN. He created the Butoh-magazine, Hageshii Kisetsu (Violent Season), and founded a female butoh Company, ARIADONE, for which he choreographed a number of pieces. Two years later, he founded an all-male butoh- group: SEBI. He also created his unit Ko&Edge Co. with three young Japanese dancers, with whom he presented Handsome Blue Sky at the JADE 2003 Hijikata Memorial in Japan. Currently based in Tokyo, Ko continues to tour internationally throughout Europe and South America.

“Hurling and butting, Murobushi shatters the traditional
Western dance aesthetics. In the process, he shatters into
pieces himself. From the rubbish rises up his body like a
plate of steel as if an ancient body in a catacomb starts to
tremor." -Tatsuro Ishi, Dance Critic

Thank you every one for attending! It was a short session but a great intro to Ko Murobishi-san's approach - if you have never taken a workshop with him before. For me, it was good to reconnect. I had not seen Ko-san, in person, for YEARS!

Sushi-Bar Stance is CLASSIC!! ;)

Yes.  It worked for the workshop and I signed up.  There was no code for the performance but that's fine.  I bought a ticket anyway.  See you next week.

I saw your performance at HERE and it was gorgeous!  The images were riveting.

Maxine, have you tried the code again recently?

Some update have been made!

I would like to go but the discount code is not registering.  I keep getting a message saying that the cart does not meet the minimum requirement.  What should I do?
