Event Description

Jules Rosskam opens his 2013 residency with an invitation to an exploration of a no-good-place. A performative lecture of research on utopia, presented as an open rehearsal for Rosskam's ‘live film’ in July, the event features lyricist and fiddler Julia Read, and dancer Sarah Donnelly. "No Place But Between Us" investigates utopia not as a distant (and ever unreachable) ideal world, but as a feeling and force that exists in and between us. This place between us, the no-good-place where time collapses, and into which our selves dissolve and transcend the impoverished material conditions of our existence. Come with what you always bring: your ghosts, your desires, your drive toward freedom.

Jules Rosskam is a interdisciplinary artist, filmmaker, writer and educator whose work explores the construction of personal and historical narratives and the development of identity-based communities. Rosskam is currently a visiting Assistant Professor of Film and Video Production at Hampshire College.

An ambitious composer/lyricist, singer, and fiddler, Julia Read conjures a singularly captivating, subversively calm and dangerous magic. On her debut album, Go On Go, she sings of monsters and witches, of the bones of visibility and invisibility, of bodily presence and absence. She collaborates with many musicians and artists in NYC and Massachussetts.

Sarah Donnelly graduated from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts with a double major in Dance and Political Science. She was a member of the STREB Extreme Action Company for six years and continues to teach master classes for the company. Sarah has worked with site-specific choreographer Noemie La France for the past three years and is currently performing in Rigoletto at The Metropolitan Opera. She is a founding member and Associate Artistic Director of RDC and is currently creating new work for regional tours and New York City engagements.
