SUMMARY:Jules Rosskam // No Place But Between Us
DESCRIPTION:Jules Rosskam opens his 2013 residency with an invitation
to an exploration of a no-good-place. A performative lecture of resea
rch on utopia, presented as an open rehearsal for Rosskam's ‘live fi
lm’ in July, the event features lyricist and fiddler Julia Read, an
d dancer Sarah Donnelly. \"No Place But Between Us\" investigates uto
pia not as a distant (and ever unreachable) ideal world, but as a feel
ing and force that exists in and between us. This place between us, th
e no-good-place where time collapses, and into which our selves dissol
ve and transcend the impoverished material conditions of our existence
. Come with what you always bring: your ghosts, your desires, your dri
ve toward freedom.\nJules Rosskam is a interdisciplinary artist, film
maker, writer and educator whose work explores the construction of per
sonal and historical narratives and the development of identity-based
communities. Rosskam is currently a visiting Assistant Professor of Fi
lm and Video Production at Hampshire College.\nAn ambitious composer/l
yricist, singer, and fiddler, Julia Read conjures a singularly capti
vating, subversively calm and dangerous magic. On her debut album, Go
On Go, she sings of monsters and witches, of the bones of visibility a
nd invisibility, of bodily presence and absence. She collaborates with
many musicians and artists in NYC and Massachussetts.\nSarah Donnelly
graduated from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts with a
double major in Dance and Political Science. She was a member of the
STREB Extreme Action Company for six years and continues to teach mast
er classes for the company. Sarah has worked with site-specific choreo
grapher Noemie La France for the past three years and is currently per
forming in Rigoletto at The Metropolitan Opera. She is a founding memb
er and Associate Artistic Director of RDC and is currently creating ne
w work for regional tours and New York City engagements.\n\nFor more i
