About: Please tell us about your self. Some of our programs have benefits for art workers - please tell us if you are an artist and mention the most recent work/venue/space/residency where you have worked/developed your practice.
JODI NETZER is a multi-faceted Performing Artist (Dance, Theatre, Puppetry, Masks, Stilt-Dancing, Installation), Graphic Designer, Video Artist, Sound Collagist, Poet, Visual Artist, Event Organizer and Arts Advocate. Graduating from Drexel University in 1997, Jodi has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Graphic Design with a double concentration in Performing Arts and Film & Video. From digital arts (any form of print design, web and TV/video media) to performing and visual arts, Jodi does what she calls "creative communications" - capturing and enhancing essences into creative experiential campaigns.

Jodi is the Director / Facilitator of The Conscious Collective, a participatory group comprised of community members with mixed level of performance and visual arts experience, which became the performance arm of Tucson Arts Brigade when Jodi moved to Tucson from Philadelphia in 2008. The Conscious Collective has created several works, most recently a performance on water issues for The Water Project: Tucson’s Synergistic Water Festival, of which Jodi was also the Founder, Director, and Programmer. The festival also included an Enviro-Vendor Fair, Policy Panel, Roundtable Brainstorms, Film Festival, Cross-Cultural/Interfaith Water Ritual, and After Party.

Jodi has taught puppetry and stilt-dancing at Bread & Puppet (Vermont) and Spiral Q Puppet Theatre (Philadelphia), toured nationally with Shoddy Puppet Company, and worked with puppeteer Kevin Augustine (New York + San Francisco). Jodi created video projections for several performances, especially for Group Motion Dance Company and SCRAP Performance Group. She currently teaches improvisational movement theatre workshops at Rhythm Industry Performance Factory.

Jodi has an eclectic dance theater movement style, which incorporates Butoh, Clown, Vaudeville, Modern, African dance and other influences inspired by her extensive experience in taking workshops from many national and international performing artists. Some of her teachers include Headlong Dance Theatre (Philadelphia), Pig Iron Theatre (Philadelphia), New Paradise Laboratories (Philadelphia), Group Motion Dance Company (Philadelphia), Guillermo Gomez-Peña (San Francisco), Teatr Novogo Fronta (Czech Republic), Masaki Iwana (France), Akira Kasai (Japan), Ko Murobushi (Japan), Jacek Luminski (Poland), Emmio Greco (Italy), Ballet Folklórico Cutumba (Cuba), and numerous others.

Among her many projects, Jodi was the Founder, Artistic Director, and Programmer of The Bumpin' Big Top in 2002 and 2003, a circus with 40 different performance groups, live music, film festival, and visual art. Besides being Art Director of the Philadelphia Fringe Festival, she has created many performances for the festivals during the time she lived there. Advocating for the arts as effective tools for communication, Jodi was the featured performing artist at the UA Water Resources Research Center’s 2010 Annual Conference, The Philadelphia Earth Charter Community Summit, and Thinking Outside the Bomb: a Conference on Nuclear Weapons, the Environment, and Health.

Jodi has been awarded several grants, including the PA Council on the Arts, AZ Commission on the Arts, Leeway Foundation, Puffin Foundation, Dance Advance and others.

In both solo and group projects, she works with themes of interconnectivity, holistic health and well-being, enviro-socio-political awareness and arts advocacy – utilizing the arts as creative communication and expression for cultural development and intellectual enhancement.
