About:
Paul is co-artistic director of Chopt Logic with founder Tina Mitchell. He is a teacher and practitioner of the Japanese performing art of Kenbu (Sword Dance) trained under the late Maeda Asano Sensei of Ryushin Ryu, based in Nagoya, Japan. He holds an MFA from New York’s Columbia University’s Theater Directing Program. He has directing credits in Australia, Germany and the United States. Currently, Paul with composer Matt Marks are resident artists at HERE Arts Residency Program to develop a new opera-theatre piece about the courtesan-spy Mata Hari.

Jo-Ha-Kyu and the Discordant Aesthetic



As a young man in my early twenties I spent a year living in Japan. What brought me to live there was my determination to deepen my training in a Zen sword discipline called Iaido.
