Ophra Wolf is a multimedia performance artist who explores the human experience of self and world by means of movement, music, voice, text and interactive technology. She holds an MA in Performance from Goldsmiths College, University of London (Distinction) and a BA in Sociology and Dance from the University of California, Berkeley (Suma Cum Laude).

Her work has been presented internationally at the Performance Mix Festival (Joyce Soho/New York), the Living Theater (New York), FILE Festival (SESC/Sao Paulo), STEIM (Amsterdam), Nadine (Brussels), Institute of Psychoacoustic and Electronic Music’s IPEM 40 Festival (Vooruit/Gent), PixelACHE Festival (Helsinki), RAM 4 (Helsinki), and The Israel Museum (Jerusalem), among other venues.

She has also worked internationally as a performer with Guillermo Gomez Peña (Tate Modern Live Culture Exhibit/London, 9/03); was a core company performer and administrator of the North American Cultural Laboratory (NACL Theater/Highland, NY, 10/05 - 3/08); a principal dancer, choreographer and instructor with Rina Sheinfeld Dance Theatre (Tel Aviv, 9/98 - 9/01); a devising performer with Company 333 (Camden People’s Theatre, London, 4/03 – 9/03) and Ground Level Theatre (Hoxton Hall, London, 9/02 – 1/03); and a dancer with the Bay Area Repertory Dance Company (BARD/Berkeley, CA 9/97 – 4/98).

Ophra is the founder and artistic director of Pursue the Pulse Media Arts Collective (www.pursuethepulse.org), with whom she created interactive performances, events and installations, including Four Seasons, an evening length interactive performance and installation (2002-2004, with Ami Wolf and René Mogenson); Analogue, an interactive performance installation (2005, with Jamie Allen and Hans-Christoph Steiner); Ask the Robot, a multimedia performance series at the Frying Pan (Chelsea Piers, NY; 2004-2006, with Meghan Trainor); and the FireFly Collective, an improvisational quintet using interactive visuals (2008 – 2009, with Lorenzo Sanguedolce, Chris DiMeglio, Adam Lane and Todd Capp). She was also responsible for the public placement of the CoDeck (2004, with Ami Wolf, Mark Argo, Shawn Van Every, and Dan Melinger), a platform for sharing and discussing video-based content.

She is the recipient of residencies at the Studio for Electro Instrumental Music (STEIM/Amsterdam), Nadine (Brussels), Chisenhale Arts Center (London), and Earthdance (Massachusetts) and a stag with the Theatre du Soleil (Paris). Her performance related writing has been published in Rhizome.org, Live Arts Magazine, and the Nordic Institute for Contemporary Art Magazine. She has extensive training in the fields of dance and physical theater and has worked with Mario Biagini of the Workcenter of Jerzy Grotowski and Thomas Richards, Barbara Carreri of the Odin Teatret, Od Kortland of Pina Bausch Dance Theatre, Clive Parker of Theatre du Complicite, Duccio Bellugi-Vannuccini and Maurice Durozier of the Theatre du Soleil, members of the Martha Graham Dance Company and Jose Limon Dance Company, and many others. Most of her tech skills are self-taught, but she recently studied sensor building with John Jannone at the PIMA program at Brooklyn College.

She currently works out of her studio in Brooklyn, where she teaches movement classes and has a bodywork practice (www.forceandflow.com).
