About: Please tell us about your self. Some of our programs have benefits for art workers - please tell us if you are an artist and mention the most recent work/venue/space/residency where you have worked/developed your practice.
I'm a dancer, physical theater performer and scholar. I started training in butoh back in the late 80s with artists including Maureen Fleming, Eiko and Koma, Sankai Juku; then more recently Yuko Kaseki, Katsura Kan, Kota Yamazaki and Tanya Calamoneri. I've performed butoh with various companies and independent choreographers, including Poppo Shiraishi, Jason Childers, & Tanya Calamoneri. Butoh has also been a major influence in my own choreography, as well as Action Theater, ballet, post-modern dance, and other experimental movement and theater forms. I've danced with about 2 dozen dance and physical theater companies/ choreographers in the US and presented my own work in NYC, San Francisco and abroad. I'm currently teaching dance, yoga and physical theater in the Occupied Palestinian West Bank, including Butoh, AT- and other somatic-based forms. I'm also an Arabic and comparative literature professor at Hofstra University.
