Derek DiMartini hails from Oakland, California. Coming from a strong theatrical background, Derek began dance training in high school, and quickly connected with the power dance has to express that which words cannot. He has choreographed extensively with A Different Drum Dance Company, as well as for serving as a choreographer and movement coach for various theatrical productions. In New York his work has been performed with Mare Nostrum Elements, as well as at WAXworks and Marie-Christine Giordano Salon. As a performer he has had the opportunity to perform the works of Merce Cunningham, Ohad Naharin, Akram Khan, Reggie Wilson, Alex Ketley, Twyla Tharp, Yvonne Rainer and Trisha Brown. He is currently dancing with SumBones Collective. Derek graduated from Yale University in 2013

Frantic Beauty

You feel it in the fingertips of the heart. Blind. Reaching out through the central nervous system. Carving into you like clay, working through you like putty.  For a moment it rests behind the eyes, and you stop, paralyzed. Because before you know what it is, you see it in its entirety.
