Event Description

Encounters with LEIMAY Part 3

Solo Study and Studies for Frantic Beauty

LEIMAY presents a series of studies for its new piece, Frantic Beauty, premiering at BAM in 2017. These studies can range from short performances to abstract video environments. In Frantic BeautyLEIMAY reflects on the nature of beauty, how it is understood, and how this understanding affects society.

The Studies offer a chance for LEIMAY's audience to observe the inner workings of the piece before its premiere and also a chance for LEIMAY to see the piece's resonance in front of an audience.

The evening will close with an additional Study, a solo choreographed by one of LEIMAY’s Ensemble members, Derek Di Martini.

Encounters with LEIMAY is a four-part series of talks, performances, and training that, seen as a whole, offer a resonant environment that mirrors LEIMAY’s artistic practice. Encounters with LEIMAY is conceived by artistic directors Ximena Garnica and Shige Moriya as a chance to see the ensemble at its home, uncovering the layers of thought, practice, and experimentation that compose LEIMAY’s work. This series includes the LEIMAY LUDUS Summer Intensive, a lecture demonstration on LEIMAY LUDUS, and symposium and performance studies focused around LEIMAY’s new piece, Frantic Beauty, premiering at BAM in September 2017.

Monday, June 12, 8pm-9pm
