Sea Heike is a German-born, American visual and performing artist currently residing in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Her breadth of work encompasses sculpture, painting, audio/video installation, critical theory, and butoh-based performances. The works are connected by her interest in the phenomenology of the body, its capacity to contain memory and its existence in time/space.
While doing my undergraduate studies at California College of the Arts in San Francisco, CA, I was pointed in the direction of butoh by my media arts professors. After seeing Minako Seki perform “In Between” in 2004, I knew this was where my work was headed. I have studied with Shinichi Iova-Koga and Sherwood Chen (inkBoat), Minako Seki, Yuko Kaseki, and most recently Katsura Kan. I have performed and exhibited art work in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, Berlin, Chiang Mai, and Kuala Lumpur.

Thirst is desire. The need to drink. Cellular osmosis.
An involuntary process.
Obsession. Survival. Necessity.
A drop of water falling, alone, and merging with the whole.
Love letters to the ocean.
