Leralee Whittle is a choreographer, videographer and dancer. In her “time-lapse dances” she captures the multiple realities we might navigate within a given day or even within in a simple conversation. Performers communicate with body languages textured by opposing social forces and creative forces, following rhythmic impulses to relate or to retract into solitary, reflective worlds.
Leralee Whittle performed dance and experimental theatre for 12 years in the San Francisco Bay Area where she was collaborated with many other dancers, performance groups and choreographers, including Nita Little Dance Theatre (2000-2005). Leralee Whittle was awarded a grant for innovative dance from Theatre Bay Area in 2008. She then toured and performed in galleries, colleges and theaters all over the US together with musician Paul Sprawl, and landed in Kansas City in 2010. She was immediately awarded a Rocket Grant (funded by the Andy Warhol Foundation, Charlotte Street and the Spencer Museum) for innovative interdisciplinary performance, and is currently in the second round of a prestigious MAP grant pool. She is working with collaborator Paul Sprawl at Urban Culture Project Performance Residency on two new projects, STRANGER FRIEND and Glint. Leralee’s recent works include “WorkArtOut”, “Occupied” & “You’re Really Something”
