Hyunsoo Byun received her MFA in Sculpture- Video and Installation Art from the Cranbrook Academy of Art in 1997 and BFA General Fine Arts -Mixed Media and Installation Art from the Maryland Institute, College of Art in 1994.
Her creative research areas include performance-based video, media installation, and digital compositing.
Exhibitions and presentations of her work include 'Performance, Hybridization, and Alterity' at the 'Interplay' Mid America College Art Association Conference; 'Interference Patterns' at the Armory Northwest, Pasadena , CA in conjunction with
the International 'Art in Motion' Conference of Timebased Media; Only Skin Deep American Self' National Survey at the
International Center of Photography, NY, NY; and 'A-1 National Video Competition' at the Knoxville Intermedia Arts
Coopertaive, Knoxville, TN.
Hyunsoo has held faculty positions at the Cleveland Institute of Art, Cleveland, OH, University of North Dakota, Grand Forks, ND, Colorado College, Colorado Springs, CO and the Center for the Creative Studies, College of Art and Design, Detroit, MI. She has been granted artist's residential fellowship at the Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts, Wilimgton, DE and the Vermont Studio Center, Johnson, VT.
She currently resides and works in Philadelphia, PA, USA.
