To any interested parties:

I am putting together a multi-media installation and music event that will be performed on the 20th of December. The event will be at Lightspace studios (http://www.lightspace.tv/) in Brooklyn. It involves animated projections of lines in a fog filled space (the lines become walls in fog), a musical score, and a Butoh dancer dressed in clothes and accessories that I make. The piece will run for a duration of about 15 minutes. Please see attached PDF for artist statement, visual references, and pictures of the garment.

It has also received attention from Anthony McCall, who will be in attendance. His piece, namely, A Line Describing a Cone (1973), was one of the main sources of inspiration for the project.

After the installation/performance, the event will transition into musical sets. We are thinking about Shigeto (https://soundcloud.com/shigeto), Chrome sparks (https://soundcloud.com/chrome-sparks), Branchez (https://soundcloud.com/branchez), and definitely Don Christian Jones (http://www.redbullmusicacademy.com/magazine/donchristian-interview-...) as the performers.

In addition to the event we are filming the piece and releasing it as a video. The videographer is Rafe Scobey-Thal, whose recent work got featured on Prefix magazine: http://www.prefixmag.com/news/prefix-premiere-watch-wati-heru-mob-o....

The event brings together fashion, performance/installation art, and music into one seamless event with a focused aesthetic. And of course we are trying to build a community of creative people from a diverse background in NYC, while giving fellow artists, musicians, and dancers the exposure that they deserve. Since my personal aesthetic is inspired by traditional and modern Japanese culture, my other goal for his particular event is to bring awareness to distinct art forms such as Butoh to audiences who otherwise would not have been aware of it.

The expected attendance of this show is somewhere around 75 to 150 people at this point.

I am currently seeking a dancer for this piece.

The dancer will mostly improvise in the style of Butoh while following certain blocking instructions.

I need someone who is versed in the Butoh dancing style and someone who can improvise and portray what they feel within the shifting light architecture.

Since the dancer will be wearing my accessories (mirror mask and chest piece) and garment, (please see attached PDF), I am looking for someone with a slim silhouette and a height between 5’5 and 6’2. The gender of the dancer does not matter.

The pay is $12 an hour plus the earnings from the event (we will charge a cover of $10 and possibly sell drinks) divided amongst the people involved. I wish I could pay more but sadly since this is an independent project, our budget is very limited. However, I am in the process of getting sponsors for the event, in which case our budget situation will be subject to change.

The rehearsal schedule would ideally start next week.

It would be roughly 3 to 4 hours of rehearsal per week until the day of the event, which is on December 20th. We can adjust the rehearsal schedule to accomodate your schedule.

The rehearsal space we will use is La Luz theatre, which is located on 35 Thames st. Brooklyn, NY 11237 off of the Jefferson or Morgan stop on the L train.

Thank you,
