KATHARSIS PERFORMANCE PROJECT will present its new play THE PLAGUE in September, 2011...
THE PLAGUE was written by Fulya Peker as an experimental dramatic monologue inspired by Anatolian limerick patterns. The Plague presents a
lingual journey that focuses on the physical and verbal effects of
rationality and uses the great plagues of history as a metaphor that
represents the eternal existential strife. The play meditates on human
beings who gradually become non-responsive, whose minds and bodies,
verbs and actions are forced to be separated.
KATHARSIS PERFORMANCE PROJECT was founded in 2007 to present plays written and directed by Fulya Peker (www.fulyapeker.com).
Katharsis Performance Project explores various ritual and sacred expressions; articulates the
relation between taboo and transgression; and digs deeper into the ecstatic states of human consciousness (fear, sexuality and cruelty, etc.) while feeding on existential questions that would put human will in test. The plays of Katharsis Performance Project are directed as verbal/physical theater pieces; combining vocal, motional, textual and textural experiments. During the rehearsals and workshops Peker uses Split and Unite technique, which is an experimental approach she has developed to explore new forms of vocal and physical theatrical language.
