Wistaria is not a wholly presentational performance. It is not a play. It is something else: An intimate meeting of people that questions and may threaten — through text, action, and song — the stories we use to placate our minds.
Springing from seminal U.S. texts and folk, religious, and patriotic songs,Wistaria moves into a dark patch on the canvas of 2012′s You Will Make A Difference, exploring the USA’s transitional moments and the currents bubbling beneath the mainstream. It asks what it means to be part of this living history, as citizens of this country and of the world. The event is itself ambulant, never staying more than a couple of nights in any one place — and adapting to each new environment. So, each iteration is different from the last.
Wistaria is being created during the LEIMAY Black Studio Share at CAVE, Brooklyn, NY, and through the generosity of Terra Incognita Theater.
