The Kitchen launches its new series of live electronic music, named Synth Nights, with a weekend of concerts that puts vetted pioneers of the field in conversation with a new generation of sonic technologists.  Friday, October 5 sees a performance by Daniel Lopatin aka Oneohtrix Point Never, a Brooklyn-based artist whose celebrated emergence has opened up the general public’s ears to daring combinations of electronic sound in ways unheard of in recent cultural memory. In collaboration with video artist Nate Boyce, OPN makes his Kitchen debut with an evening of audiovisual improvisation that incorporates a range of approaches and material from his critically acclaimed recordings.  Saturday, October 6 The Kitchen is proud to present a rare reunion of Musica Elettronica Viva, the elephant in the room of performing composer ensembles, featuring original core members Alvin Curran, Frederic Rzewski, and Richard Teitelbaum.  Formed in Rome during the autumn of 1966, MEV set out to liberate music from the boundaries of tradition using the latest innovations in technology.  In an era before the wireless internet or digital sampling technology, MEV radically remixed musical genres—jazz, rock, serialism, musique concrète—originating a movement in electroacoustic exploration that continues to this day.
