Event Description

The second installment of Synth Nights’ intergenerational electronic music series features recent and vintage works by legendary composer David Behrman, including Runthrough (1968, for homemade synthesizers and light-controlled mixers), Cello with Melody-driven Electronics (1974, for cello with pitch-sensors and triangle-wave generators),Useful Information (2005), and Open Space with Brass (2011, three trumpets and three trombones, cello and live multi-channel electronics.) Performers include Okkyung Lee, Jenny Lin, John King and TILT Brass (23rd only). In counterpoint, on March 22, Ben Vida collaborates with Greg Davis to present a new work, Tripartite Node, utilizing a hybrid computer/analog synthesizing setup designed for real-time composition and centralized control-source improvisations. Tripartite Node represents the duo’s most recent foray into systems-derived group composition. Joining Behrman on March 23, Sergei Tcherepnin and Woody Sullender will present a new piece continuing their work with building theatrical physical environments for their live electronic music. In this work they invite Okkyung Lee to interact with and activate specific aspects of the composition.
