Event Description

New York City Site Maps is an architectural installation that explores different ways of experiencing the city. Located on a rooftop in Brooklyn, 15 wooden tripods holding a variety of optical elements set the stage for visual investigations of the New York skyline. As stations for observing the city from various vantage points, the pieces form a collective of visual experiences that are activated through the movement of the visitors. Each experience being unique and existing as a fragment of the collective interpreted space, the perceptions will change throughout the day, highlighting the inevitable element of time in the investigation of space. As the project reflects upon the ways we orient ourselves in the city, and how we appropriate the kaleidoscopic diversity and complexity of our surroundings, it also investigates how we choose to identify, maintain and negotiate our position within the city. When you move the city moves with you.

Artists: Jakob Oredsson (jakoboredsson.com) & Kyle Schroeder (kyleschroeder.net) Co-curated by Karen Danielsen
