Event Description

Asylos' latest production, "Out Of The Ash" has been invited to perform at the 2015 LGBTQ HOT! Festival at Dixon Place! The show is composed of text by Sylvia Plath, pulling from her poetry, prose, short stories, journal entries and letters. The text is compiled by artistic director G.J. Dowding in collaboration with the company's wonderful ensemble: Teresa Braun , Eli Marti, Amanda Rothman, Virginia Rupert and Yael Shavitt with the wonderful aid of our assistant director and stage manager, Bo Frazier

This work-in-progress showing invites you to enter The House of Esther where 5 women are dually dipped in ancient mythology and present-day, traditional domesticity. "Character is fate." Sylvia nurtured it and we are throwing personalities everywhere! Actual persons from Sylvia's life can be seen as well as references to mythological personalities such as The Fates, Medusa, The Sirens, The Weird Sisters, Lady MacBeth, Mary Magdalen. Then there are some new ones like Joan, Fiona, Doreen, Esther, our Mary, Mrs. Guinea, Mr. Ockenden and many more that we haven't been able to properly identify...

Come, have a sausage ("The sausages, the sausages!), maybe a communion wafer and stick around for a little death, sex, ouija, conjuring, bodily experimentation and good ol' fashioned blood baths. Oh, and some gossip around the dinner table, naturally.

"Dying is an art, like everything else..."

And they do it exceptionally well.
