Event Description

Curated by Martha Wilson

My Show:
Dread Scott Decision will look at the contradiction of a country that was ostensibly founded on democracy but that also has slavery woven into its founding document. It will also explore decisions that the audience members make within this society.

Current obsession:
Revolution and communism, and helping humanity to create a world without exploitation and oppression.

My art is inspired by:
An understanding that the world doesn’t have to be the way that it is. We don’t have to live in a world where a tiny handful of people control the great wealth and knowledge that humanity as a whole has created.

Performance art in 2012 means:
That a key focus of the art is on the audience and their relationship with the performer, not on narrative.

I am propelling history forward by:
Making art that pulls no punches. I spit in the face of capitalism and other sacred cows and get audiences to lose more of their faith in them.

Revolutionary art is:
Art that enables an audience to confront and question the cohering norms of this society, and to recognize that this system is neither permanent nor eternal and could be radically different.
