Thea Little was born and grew up in New York City and is a Brooklyn-based performer, choreographer, composer, musician and director. Her solos and group works challenge the boundaries of dance, experimental vocals and performance art. Little studied classical piano for ten years and as a self-taught composer, has created more than fifty sound scores performed both domestic and abroad. Thea has engaged in new live improvisatory works with LEIMAY in Qualia Gardens during 2015 and 2017 as well as for LEIMAY’s A Meal at HEREarts in 2018. She spent six years with the School of American Ballet and holds an MFA in Dance from Hollins University and a Bachelors degree from Columbia University. Little has performed in traditional and experimental venues throughout the U.S. and Europe including The Whitney Museum, The Traveling Trolley in Kingston NY, WUK Conservatoire in Vienna and David H. Koch Theater in Lincoln Center. Thea has worked with Neta Pulvermacher, Todd Williams, Moving Theater, Shen Wei Dance Arts, Panoply Lab, Anaïs Maviel, LEIMAY and Feminist Art Group (F.A.G.) among others. In April 2018, she presented two sold-out performances of her evening-length work, Extraordinarily Inverse, at the Center for Performance Research (CPR). Little recently had another sold-out premiere of her new trio Honest Process at National Sawdust this past July as a 2018-2019 Artist-in-Residence. Thea has also presented her work in the Beaux Arts Court of The Brooklyn Museum, Dixon Place, The Performance Mix Festival, The Exponential Festival, NYU Music Department, Gruntäler9 in Berlin, Earthdance in MA, The New School, Asia Society, and RECESS at Chez Bushwick among others. She was a Faculty member at Earthdance the Summer’s of 2018 and 2019 during the Moving Arts Lab (MAL) and International Interdisciplinary Artists Consortium (IIAC) facilitated by Peter Sciscioli. This year of 2019-2020, Little is returning to LEIMAY as a second-time Fellow and she will be creating a new retrospective installation work towards a Fall season in 2020. Thea is proud to be on the Advisory Board of New Dance Alliance.
