1st International Contest "Open Air Museum of Bogota" Call for Submissions January 2015 Open Space Museum Bogota The Open Space Museum is an initiative developed by the Secretaría de Cultura, Recreación y Deporte (Secretary of Culture), Bogota's main cultural authority that seeks to revitalize Bogota's urban space by placing new sculptures and artworks in important public spaces. This strategy will be lead by the Secretaría de Cultura, Recreación y Deporte through a public alliance that includes important institutions of the city. In this context, the Secretaría de Cultura, Recreación y Deporte, is pleased to announce the 1st International Competition “Open Space Museum” to encourage Colombian and international artists as well as teams of artists to develop new artistic proposals beyond the traditional existing sculptures of the city. The location to place the awarded artwork will be the roundabout of the intersection of Calle 19 and Carrera 3 in “Las Aguas”, which is one of the most traditional neighborhoods of Bogota. The competition offers a prize of One Hundred Million Colombian pesos (COP $ 100 Million) to the winning proposal. The selected proposal will also have Two Hundred Million Colombian pesos (COP $ 200 million) to construct the artwork between April and September of 2015. Proposals will be received from the 23rd to 27th of February 2015 at the Secretaría de Cultura, Recreación y Deporte Carrera 8 No. 9-83, Plaza de Bolívar Bogotá Colombia The contest aims to encourage proponents to transcend the traditional concept of commemorative sculpture, to explore an expanded notion of insertion and creation of public art, and to submit proposals that dialogue with the historical, cultural, and social contexts of the place. The jury selected to evaluate the contest will include five recognized professionals with substantial experience and expertice assesing competitions of contemporary arts. They are: Lucrezia Cippitelli (Italy), Cuauhtemoc Medina González (Mexico), Ana Patricia Gomez Jaramillo (Colombia), Daniel Castro Benitez (Colombia) and Fernando Alberto Cortés (Colombia).
