SUMMARY:Towards the Egoless Body with Naoko Maeshiba
DESCRIPTION:Based on Body Weather Laboratory, a kinesthetic and moveme
 nt research founded by dancer/farmer Min Tanaka, this workshop investi
 gates the body as a dynamic, transformative entity – constantly chan
 ging like weather – and explores the intersection of bodies and thei
 r environments. It challenges the performers to examine the preconceiv
 ed boundaries of physical expression, and leads them to discover the p
 rimal, potent state of the body, devoid of ego.\n\nThe workshop focuse
 s on:\nrigorous and dynamic rhythm training to strengthen the core\npa
 rtnered active relaxation through breathing and stretching\nimage work

 ased in Baltimore/ Washington, DC. Since 1993, she has worked with Bod
 y Weather Laboratory training initiated by Min Tanaka. She has also st
 udied and worked with Betty Jones, Akira Matsui, Richard Emmert, Ohta 
 Shogo, and Pak Wayan Dibia amongst others. In 2002, she founded Kibism
 , a performance unit/lab in order to explore the depth of the body, ex
 amine various forms of perception, and further the interactions betwee
 n different disciplines and cultures. Maeshiba's solo and ensemble wor
 ks have been experienced in the North America, Europe, and Japan. She 
 has received Individual Artist Awards from the Maryland State Arts Cou
 ncil and the Baltimore Office of Promotion and the Arts in solo dance
