SUMMARY:LEIMAY Ludus Lab with guest teacher Mari Osanai
DESCRIPTION:This LEIMAY Ludus Lab with guest dancer Mari Osanai is div
ided in three different modules: 1) Introduction to Noguchi Taizo Part
One, 2) Noguchi Taizo Part Two, and 3) Movement Creation and Structur
 e. Modules can be taken separately or together. However early registra
tion and discounts are only open to those who plan on taking all the m
odules. This LEIMAY Ludus Lab is open to dancers, body-rooted performer
s, physical actors of all levels, ages, and capabilities. Within the w
hole duration of this LEIMAY Ludus Lab participants will explore funda
mental elements of  Noguchi Taizo (Noguchi Gymnastics). During the th
ird module under the guidance of Osanai, participants will work on the
creation of short individual and group pieces. Noguchi Taizo (Noguchi
Gymnastics)  was created in Japan by Michizo Noguchi (1914-1998) dur
ing the same period as butoh was being developed by Tatsumi Hijikata a
nd Kazuo Ohno. The aim is to develop the uniqueness of each individual
movement and to relieve any undue strain. Taizo means ‘gym’ in Ja
panese, but not in the conventional sense. As Osanai explains, “This
technique has nothing to do with the swelling of the muscles nor resi
stance forces. The body learns to move in a certain way but is loose a
nd fluid. It becomes soft and flexible as it uses its own weight to be
moved.”\nThese modules will allow participants to experience Mari
s unique approach to dance and understanding of Noguchi Taizo, and to
discover their own individual and unique approach to movement creatio
 n.\nDates: January 28th - February 8th Detailed Schedule: Module 1:
