SUMMARY:Audition for Collaborative Dance Work with Thea Little and Art
 ists
DESCRIPTION:Thea Little, choreographer, performer, and music composer,
is holding an audition on Monday February 23 from 2-6pm. She is loo
king for male and female dancers of all ethnicities to join her dance
and performance work about the ideas of control that will be performed
on June 3 and June 4 2015 during the SOAK Festival at Leimay/Cave w
here she is part of a Fellowship for the 2014-2015 year. There is also
a performance opportunity on March 27 at Glasshouse Projects. Thea
is looking for dancers and performers experienced and interested in mo
vement and text improvisation, as well as learning and creating moveme
nt phrases. Thea and her team work openly and collaboratively. We will
meet twice a week and dancers will be paid. Please read Thea's artis
t statement and view link to her vimeo page to see if this project is
right for you before contacting Thea at Thea_Little@yahoo.com.\n\nThe
rehearsal schedule will be: Mondays 2:30-5:30pm and Wednesdays 12-3pm.
\n     \nThea Little's dance and performance works are very abstrac
t yet they relate to the audience on a very humanistic and moving leve
 l. Having an emotional connection with the audience while upholding ob
scurity and individualism as well as humor, zaniness, and joy are cent
ral to her work. Thea is primarily interested in and inspired by femin
ism, queer understanding, transcending social class and status, and in
teracting with the audience in a playful manner. Psychological and soc
iological memories and situations are often the impetus of Thea’s wo
rks. Her abstract aesthetic is paired with a meaningful anchor - expan
ding the personal to the universal.\n     \nCollaborating with othe
r artists is paramount to Thea's process. When she collaborates with d
ancers, visual artists, video artists, writers, musicians, and the aud
ience, each multi-media element is as effective and influential as the
other. Sets and props are often incorporated, and are often even the
first thing that Thea visualizes before the movement or music is made.
Thea's work often includes her performers’ stories and visceral exp
ressions. Explorations from games and improvisations in rehearsals are
sometimes integrated into the choreography. This sets the tone for an
intimate and open space where the audience is invited to enter a worl
d of sharing and exploring.\n     \nThea enjoys composing for her d
ances and makes musical instruments for some of her works as well. Usu
ally the music is supportive to the movements and overall concept and
is always in equal importance to the dance and other media elements. S
ometimes Thea is concerned with creating melodies and harmonies and ot
her times with collecting sounds and turning them into rhythmic sympho
nies that are visually and sonically connected to the environment or s
 tory.\n\nhttps://vimeo.com/user10178293/videos\n\nFor more information
