DESCRIPTION:Fifty light bulbs hang together from the ceiling, emitting
  a strong glow into the center of a dark room. As the audience enters 
 the space, this stark image is their initial experience of a piece tha
 t is both installation and interactive performance. Hee Ran Lee*’s *
 50 Bulbs explores the dichotomy of “I” versus “other”, and the
  insecurities consequent to cultural marginalization. Growing up femal
 e in the patriarchal power structure of South Korea, as well as living
  extensive periods away from home as a cultural minority, has provoked
  Lee’s research on “otherness” and how it relates to conformity 
 and dominance. The fragility of the lightbulbs create a tense and prec
 arious space as the audience find themselves integral to the work’s 
 conclusion.\n\nHee Ran Lee is a performance artist whose work presents
  immersive environments that allow audiences to investigate a thorough
